Southern Africa's beverage cans, especially those filled locally, have for many years been made of a tin-plate steel body with an aluminium end, whilst imported beers and soft drinks have been in all-aluminium cans. During 2014 and 2015 beverage cans in South Africa began their conversion from a steel bodied can with an aluminium end to the all-aluminium can. The used beverage can waste stream is now made up of more and more all-aluminium cans, and less and less steel cans. Hulamin is working with the local beverage industry to ensure that the all-aluminium can is clearly identified through the international recycling logo. This will help consumers to identify the aluminium can and ensure its proper recycling.
