The aluminium used beverage can (UBC) is the most valuable of all the types of packaging and paper recycled.
The price per kilogram of UBC in South Africa will vary because of the costs of transport and levels of cleanliness, but collectors can expect to receive over R5.00/kg for cans delivered to one of the 3 000 “buy back” centres in the country – many of these are simply small metal scrap dealers operating with a “cash for scrap” sign.
The price Hulamin will pay for baled and cleaned UBC will be higher – this is because Hulamin requires UBC to meet a higher specification for cleanliness; there is also a minimum delivery quantity.
To become a supplier of UBCs to Hulamin you will be required to meet the Hulamin supply specification.
