Recycling makes business sense to us. It supplies Hulamin with aluminium raw material and at the same time ensures that products made from our aluminium are not lost to the precious aluminium resource pool.
We have adopted the principle of "extended producer responsibility" in our business. Simply put, this means that if we make a product, we also take our share of the responsibility for its recycling at the end of its life.
Our many customers use Hulamin's products - plate, sheet, foil and extruded profiles - as components in the manufacture of their products. For example:
Some of these products will remain in use for over 50 years in buildings, for 15 to 20 years in truck bodies and for as little as 30 days for a beverage can. Regardless of their life span, the aluminium at the end of the product’s life can be recycled.
While Hulamin has historically focused on recycling our own internally generated process scrap and that of our customers, our new investment in recycling capability will increase the amount and varieties of "end-of-life" scrap which we can recycle.
These investments increase the company’s capacity to recycle coated and painted light gauge scrap and are ideal for the recycling of used beverage cans. A number of other scrap metal recyclers in the foundry and secondary metals industry complement Hulamin’s recycling capability. Each of these businesses use the scrap types most suitable for them as feedstock for the end products they make.
