Last week Friday Hulamin was honoured with the Corporate award at the 2011 KwaZulu-Natal Productivity Awards ceremony held in Durban.
Hosted by the government’s productivity agency, Productivity South Africa in collaboration with the provincial Economic Development Department, the awards recognise organisations for their contribution to building South Africa’s productive capacity, and showcase the productive successes in the country through implementation of productivity improvement practises in a sustainable manner.
Hulamin’s Corporate Affairs Executive, Mr Hector Molale, explained “Although manufacturers have been hit hard by external factors such as the strong Rand and high costs of energy, labour and transport, we are committed to addressing the issues under our control through our manufacturing excellence programme, the IMA.” Hector told the local newspaper, The Witness, that the main productivity gains are in the areas of output, equipment reliability, recoveries and operator involvement in decision making at machine centre level. “Other gains are made through standardisation, improvement projects, a drive towards sustainability supported by Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) which enables management to hold meaningful conversations with employees on the shop floor” he added.
Congratulations to the Integrated Manufacturing Approach (IMA) team for their contribution towards the attainment of this prestigious award, and a big “thank you” to all Rolled Products employees for embracing IMA, thus making it as easy as possible for all our operators to do a great job on the shop floor.
