Hulamin boosts small medium micro enterprises

One of Hulamin's ongoing commitments is to contribute towards the development, sustainability, financial and operational independence of majority black-owned businesses.

A number of enterprises have benefitted from this commitment and have created sustainable business enterprises that provide jobs and grow the economy.

In 2008, Hulamin assisted Mandla Ngcobo from Pietermaritzburg to establish a drum refurbishment business for the company's Alpaste products. Every month, more than 300 drums are refurbished or repaired and cleaned for re-use by Hulamin. Previously, these drums were used only once and then disposed of in landfills. The business is set to expand this year because used drums will now be collected from Hulamin's customers all over South Africa.

Another enterprise, Mziwakhe construction owned by John Majola is now able to employ six people thanks to Hulamin. Through Hulamin's customer HB Interiors, John received training in the fitment of Hulabond. As a result he has clad some of the major building projects in Pietermaritzburg, including the Capital Towers, Department of Education, and Garden City Motors premises.

Hulamin has also supported TWDM Timbers since 2004, who procure pallets and boxes. With assistance from Hulamin, this business was recently awarded a contract and has been able to provide job opportunities for more than 20 people.
