Hulamin joins forces with BSI Steel to give small business development a boost
Hulamin and BSI Steel have given the Business Support Centre's SMME (small, medium and micro businesses) development activities in Pietermaritzburg a financial boost. The two companies will each make available over R20 000 to the centre over the next six months.
The BSC is a non-governmental organisation that provides business training and advice and facilitates links to emerging entrepreneurs in the Pietermaritzburg area.
General Manager of the BSC, Diane Gaskin, said "The Business Support Centre has been doing astounding (? Is this her word?) work in fulfilling its objective of contributing to economic development through proactively supporting SMME growth in the region”.
Hulamin Human Resources Director, Kenneth Mshengu, said the BSC was in desperate need of finance so BSI and Hulamin had decided to help. "We support what they are doing, which is a good job developing small businesses. They have produced people to whom we have given jobs.”
Last year, the BSC successfully facilitated the participation of 52 of its members to the Hulamin black empowerment deal through the formation of the BSC Trust. The transaction ensured that local entrepreneurs became shareholders of Hulamin.
