Aluminium Pie Dish in the Guinness World Records

Aluminium Pie Dish in the Guinness World Records

On Sunday 4 November, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reported that South African farmers recently set a new Guinness World Record for the biggest pumpkin pie yet made. What you may also be interested to know is that the pie dish was made from Hulamin’s aluminium.

The previous world record was held in the USA with a pie weighing 920 kg. However, in this recent record in Pretoria, farmers weighed theirs in at a heavier 1150 kg and now own the record!

More than a ton of pumpkins had to be peeled, cooked and mixed with other ingredients. Four hundred litres of milk, 240 dozen eggs, five kg of seasoning and 124 kg of custard were used to make the pie. “The pie was baked on an aluminium tray requiring 8 sheets of 4,5mm thick sheet supplied by Hulamin” said Market Manager, Sheet & Plate, Brian Penfold.

About 6000 portions of 250g each were sold on the day and the funds raised were distributed to a charity organization.
